Mennonite Creation Care Network to Hold "Nonference," Summer 2008 - February 10, 2007

At semiannual meetings at Wolf Lake, IN, February 9 and 10, the Creation Care Council of the Mennonite Creation Care Network took a bold step. The group said “no” to holding an environmental conference. The Creation Care Council decided that sponsoring a separate event on the environment when other planned meetings could discuss earth care would unjustifiably contribute to global warming. With tongues in cheek, the group settled on the term, “Nonference” to describe their decision after first considering, “NegaConference,” based on “negawatt.” A negawatt is a unit of energy created by reducing consumption. ...
